The President, Director and CEO will build upon the Toledo Museum of Art’s reputation for excellence in collection, exhibition and programming to enhance TMA’s prominence as one of the great 21st century museums.
Founded in 1901 and ranked among the nation's top art museums, the Toledo Museum of Art is located on a 36 acre arts campus. TMA's collection includes masterworks by El Greco, Rubens, Rembrandt, Gainsborough and Turner; a strong medieval collection housed in a cloister built into the Museum, works by the modern masters Matisse, Picasso, Hopper, Kiefer and Nevelson; and a broad range of historically significant works from ancient
The main neoclassical revival building houses 45 galleries, 15 classroom studios, the 1,750-seat Peristyle concert hall, the 176-seat Little Theater lecture hall, the Resource Center for Educators, the Family Center, the Visual Resources Collection, the Museum Café, and the Museum Store featuring works for sale by area artists. The Toledo Museum of Art opens its collection to the public—free of charge—six days a week, 309 days a year. The Museum currently has a $13 million annual operating budget, 86 full time staff, including 14 curatorial and 14 education professionals, 197 part time staff and over 550 volunteers serving in various capacities throughout the year. Annual attendance is between 300,000 and 400,000, with about 32,000 students taking part in the organization’s various education programs. The endowment amounts to about $220 million, roughly half of which is restricted to acquisition of new works and half to fund TMA operations, exhibitions, and programming.
