The Provost reports to the President, functions as the University’s Chief Academic Officer, and is the primary steward for the overall academic standing of the University of Toledo.  In this capacity, the Provost has direct oversight of the 9 colleges of the Main Campus, their deans, academic leaders, faculty and academic budgets.  The Provost will work closely with the Chancellor of Health Sciences, who also reports to the President and oversees academic matters for the 4 colleges of the Health Science Campus.  Close cooperation between the Provost and Chancellor will be critically important to the success and standing of the University.

The Provost is directly responsible for accreditation activities for colleges of the Main Campus, and supports such activities for the Health Science Campus.  The Provost is responsible for the University’s academic calendar; for procedures for undergraduate admissions, transfers and graduation; and manages a broad array of academic support programs and functions across all University colleges, schools and institutes.  The Provost also represents the University’s academic programs to internal and external constituencies in his or her role as the University of Toledo’s Chief Academic Officer.

This position is specifically crafted for a change agent who will engage the best creative efforts of deans, academic staff and faculty as the University strives for higher levels of academic achievement.  Responsibility for accreditation and for the University’s relationships with the various evaluation and rating organizations, including the Higher Learning Commission, resides with the Provost and her or his team.

The Provost’s highest priority will be to accelerate change that measurably elevates the stature and ranking of the University’s undergraduate and graduate programs.  The Provost will review, and enhance on a continual basis, the University of Toledo’s academic standards and processes.  For the Provost, important constituents include administrators and staff of different schools, faculty that are and are not represented by the UT-AAUP, the President, Board and various academic standards and accreditation organizations.  The Provost will work closely with these constituents to continually strengthen the reputation of the University, its faculty, colleges, research, academic facilities and services.

The University is inextricably linked with its namesake city Toledo, Ohio.  The city has a population of 315,000, a metropolitan area population of 650,000, and is within a 45-minute drive of Detroit, Ann Arbor, Michigan and popular vacation destinations along Lake Erie .  Long a manufacturing center, Toledo is reorienting toward education, the health care industry and a renewed commitment to advanced manufacturing with a particular emphasis on green manufacturing.  Greater Toledo is home to three Fortune 500 companies (Dana Corporation, Owens Corning, and Owens Illinois) and several other large manufacturing companies.  The largest single employer in Toledo is the University of Toledo.  There is no institution more important to the future of this city and region than the University of Toledo.
