APLA Health

Los Angeles, CA

CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

APLA Health seeks an experienced Chief Development Officer to strengthen and diversify contributed revenue in support of comprehensive medical services, health advocacy, and health education for LGBT and other underserved Los Angeles communities. For more information please review the complete Position Description.

Reporting to the CEO, and receiving strong support from the Board and senior staff, the Chief Development Officer will shift APLA’s fundraising culture to a more activist, results-oriented growth model. The CDO will be a key member of the leadership team, and will be instrumental in enabling APLA Health’s expansion as a Federally Qualified Health Center.

APLA Health  provides primary medical care, dental and mental health services to LGBT and underserved communities as a new Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).  The organization remains true to its mission of ending HIV/AIDS, and also daily delivers exceptional support to clients navigating the unique challenges faced by LGBT community members including poverty, racism, homophobia, depression and other mental health issues, STDs, and substance abuse. The organization annually provides information and services to over 11,000 individuals, and currently has an annual budget of $24 million, 170 employees, and 2,500 volunteers operating out of 14 locations across Los Angeles County.

Every staff, board and community member associated with APLA Health will be part of this effort. The vision is one of continuous, nonstop advocacy for APLA Health’s critical importance to the community among those with the means to contribute to the organization’s work and the overall health of the LGBT community. The objective of the Development Team is to ensure that giving to APLA Health takes center stage for individual, foundation, government and corporate donor/funders, and that financially strengthening APLA Health is one of the top three priorities of each donor that supports causes important to the LBGT community in Southern California.  The CDO must be systematic in approach, driven, results-oriented, able to inspire people who want to be inspired, and able to make hard decisions that improve fundraising yields while explaining the logic behind such decisions to others. Excellent communication and people skills will be essential for this position.
