Founded in 2004 as a special initiative of ASU President Michael Crow, the Global Institute of Sustainability (GIOS) has enjoyed continuous growth and an extraordinarily high profile within Arizona State University and beyond. GIOS is about to embark on its next phase of growth, modeling how universities can drive the transition to a more sustainable world in ways that leverage the expertise of ASU faculty and students from all walks of life, incorporate scholarship across all fields of endeavor, and partners with business, government and nonprofit organizations. GIOS’s cross-cutting approach honors, yet also thinks beyond, traditional academic boundaries of the sciences, engineering, business, law, policy, and the humanities disciplines. By positioning ASU to globally address sustainability challenges in the fields of energy, logistics, health and urban renewal, GIOS encourages academic entrepreneurship and innovation.
ASU GIOS seeks an experienced fundraiser and strategist to target, cultivate and solicit individual, business and foundation prospects capable of ultimately contributing $3 million or more to ASU’s sustainability initiatives. Attached to the ASU Foundation and seconded to GIOS, the Director of Development will: be located at the GIOS on-campus offices, report to the Directorate of GIOS, and be accountable to both GIOS and the Foundation’s leadership for his or her direct contribution to fundraising success. The Director will receive considerable fundraising research and infrastructure support from the Foundation and the scope of fundraising activities will span all sustainability initiatives for GIOS, the School of Sustainability, and ASU’s 280 Sustainability Scientists and Scholars. The Director will view all ASU activities, programs, research, classes, events, contacts and relationships as opportunities to market and raise funds for GIOS and will be responsible for marshalling the resources and connections of the ASU Foundation, GIOS, GIOS Board members, faculty and administrators to raise annual, endowment and capital funds.
