San Francisco, CA

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

m/Oppenheim Associates is assisting Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center (LAS-ELC) in San Francisco in the search for a Director of Development. LAS-ELC seeks an accomplished development professional and manager to reinvigorate existing sources of revenue and to pursue new funding streams. For more information please review the complete Position Description.

Founded in 1916, LAS-ELC provides free legal services to low-income workers and their families who face unlawful job-related practices. It advises and represents clients on issues relating to disability rights, gender equity and LGBT rights, immigration and national origin, racial equality, wage protection, and work and family. In delivering services, LAS-ELC utilizes a range of tools including outreach and community education, worker’s rights clinics and legal representation.

The LAS-ELC has a staff of 31 and an annual operating budget of $4.5M, of that approximately 50% comes from contributed revenue. In 2017, they will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary, a noteworthy event and one that will be celebrated with a luncheon in 2016, a gala in early 2017, and a 100th Anniversary campaign.

The Director of Development will oversee all activities and functions of the Development Department and serve as a core member of the management team.  Working closely with the President and the board, the Director will drive all fundraising efforts and will collaborate with the Program staff to ensure that current and future programs are sufficiently resourced. Succeeding in this environment will require a resourceful and creative person who can connect with and cultivate gifts from a broad array of new donors. There are potentially many avenues to explore and the Director will be encouraged to experiment with new ideas. The position also requires an interest in acquiring a working understanding of the organization’s programs and the ability to be a persuasive advocate who can intelligently and enthusiastically convey the value and importance of LAS-ELC’s work to a broad swath of legal and non-legal audiences.

We would appreciate any suggestions you might have for individuals who might be qualified and interested in this position. Please feel free to forward the announcement on to others, as you deem appropriate.
