Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President functions as the University’s chief executive officer and is charged with direct responsibility for all programs, administration and revenue, along with oversight of its faculty and leaders of Palo Alto University’s various support functions. Founded in 1975 and operating under its current name since 2009, Palo Alto University (PAU) is a private, WASC accredited, nonprofit university offering students undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and counseling. With physical facilities located in Palo Alto, Los Altos and the greater Bay Area of California, PAU has 120 faculty and staff currently serving 799 graduate and 209 undergraduate students. The FY14-15 budget is $26 million, with 97% funded through tuition and 1%-2% funded through grants and contributions. Palo Alto University has no debt and a small endowment. Over the next five years the University plans to expand primarily in the undergraduate arena.

The Board of Trustees seeks an ambitious and charismatic academic entrepreneur to continue to elevate the institution’s undergraduate and graduate school ranking and academic quality, increase admissions, and improve its financial strength. Critical to PAU’s future will be recruiting and retaining exceptional faculty, and building upon PAU’s already strong reputation for research, student achievement and community service. The President will be responsible for the University’s finances and revenue; all recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students; all standards, policies and procedures associated with various departments; and will be the lead in representing the University as an ambassador to internal and external constituencies. Palo Alto University operates under a shared governance model and the President will ensure that this model continues and is employed.

The current President will retire from PAU July 31, 2016 and it is expected that the new President will begin on-boarding May 2016 and assume responsibility August 1, 2016. The application deadline is September 1, 2015. Interviews will begin October 2015 with the finalist selected February 2016.
