Respite and Research for Alzheimer’s Disease

San Jose, CA

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

m/Oppenheim Associates is assisting Respite & Research for Alzheimer’s Disease (RRAD) in the search for a new Executive Director. For more information please review the complete Position Description.

RRAD has provided services to Alzheimer’s and dementia clients for nearly 30 years in San Jose, CA. It was the first major dementia-specific adult day care program in the country, and daily serves up to 90 clients through its Alzheimer’s Activity Center (AAC) which provides socialization, nutrition support, recreation and cognitive stimulation. RRAD is one of the few programs in the country which provides intergenerational activities through an onsite licensed preschool, the Rosa Elena Childcare Center, serving children ages 2-5 years.

In FY 2015, AAC welcomed 207 individuals to the Center, and 35 children to the preschool. Family caregivers received 131,588 hours of respite from the demands of caregiving, and accessed 1,033 hours of education and support during various monthly support groups and numerous individual counseling sessions. The organization employs 35 staff and has an annual operating budget of approximately $1.8M, with about $1.1M earned through program fees, and the remainder from grants, contracts and contributed income. RRAD owns its facility and the adjacent building, leases some land from the County for $1 a year, and there is no debt.

RRAD wants to continue to innovate and remain responsive to the changing environments and needs for dementia services and seeks an Executive Director who will help define the future and bring about progression. It requires a business-oriented, compassionate leader to provide best in class care, diversify and strengthen the revenue model, and expand services for clients living with Alzheimer’s and related dementia. The ED will manage the day-to-day operations, ensure that programs and services are understood to community partners and those serving the aging population, and will be the chief advocate and fundraiser, building on the brand, reputation and good will of RRAD.
