The Authors Guild Foundation, the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization representing published authors and advocating for their rights by supporting free speech, fair contracts, and a living wage, began a century ago serving as the collective voice for American authors.  Its 9,000 members include novelists, historians, journalists and poets – traditionally and independently published – as well as literary agents and representatives of writers’ estates. The Authors Guild promotes copyright, fair contracts, free speech and tax fairness, fair library lending and a vibrant book marketplace free of piracy, and when necessary takes legal action in defense of authors’ rights. The Authors Guild also supports writers directly by providing essential business-related services and a strong membership community. The Authors Guild Foundation is a nonprofit organization that serves as the educational and charitable arm of the Authors Guild.
