m/Oppenheim Associates is assisting the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in the search for a new Executive Director. As part of that process, we are contacting members of the community for suggestions and nominations. For more information, please review the complete Position Description.
The Executive Director will be an activist, educator, gifted fund-raiser and executive, combining an advocate’s passion with an impresario’s touch for engaging audiences, and will possess the drive to excel that Reginald Lewis demonstrated throughout his career. The Executive Director is being selected to: strengthen the museum financially and operationally; increase visitorship and public exposure to museum programs; and to make the museum a crossroads for dialogue on both the proud history of African Americans in Maryland, and on contemporary issues faced by African Americans and others in Maryland and nationally.
The Reginald F. Lewis Museum is dedicated to highlighting the history, culture, struggles, art, aspirations, achievements and every day realities of African Americans in Maryland. A museum of history and culture, the RFL Museum explores the African American experience through permanent, temporary and special exhibitions, diverse educational programming, and by hosting events and a wide range of performances and presentations. The Reginald F. Lewis Museum is dedicated to engaging visitors of all ages and backgrounds in a dialogue encompassing all facets of the African American (and therefore American) experience – historical & contemporary, victories & defeats, sorrows & joys. The RFL Museum has an extraordinarily committed and creative staff, including 21 full time staff and 11 contractors, an annual operating budget of $4 million, no debt, and occupies an 82,000 sq. ft. building with over 13,000 sq. ft. dedicated to exhibition space.
