PRESIDENT AND CEO
United States Artists (USA) seeks a visionary President/CEO to raise and invest funds in support of America’s finest visual, literary, performing, and mixed-media artists. For more information, please see the complete Position Description.
Founded in 2005 by the Ford, Rockefeller, Rasmuson, and Prudential Foundations with $22 million to support artists in America, USA is today funded primarily by a broad range of philanthropic foundations and individuals. To date, USA has raised a $10 million permanent endowment, and has invested $21 million in 900 artists with over 91% of USA grants used to develop new art. Governed by an engaged Board of Directors of 15 artists, arts leaders and donors, USA has a lean operating model and modest staff of 5 professionals.
The organization’s principal activity is the USA Fellowship program which provides annual awards to individual artists across all disciplines, career stages and states and territories of the United States of America. Awardees are drawn from a pool of artists nominated by an annually changing group of arts experts and selected by review panels of top arts professionals. Currently between $1.2m – $1.5m is distributed annually to support art-makers across all disciplines. Both the endowment and awards are projected to grow under the leadership of the new President and the organization’s Board, while the operating infrastructure of United States Artists will remain at about its current scale.
