DISCOVERY has a history of delivering compelling educational experiences to children and families, and in the next CEO the Board seeks an executive with a track record of increasing donor & community engagement, growing attendance and revenue, and financially & operationally strengthening organizations.

This leader will guide a dedicated team serving children and families across Las Vegas and Southern Nevada and will advocate for experiential education that encompasses STEAM disciplines and social & emotional learning. The CEO will be the advocate, marketer, strategist, community leader, relationship builder and revenue builder for experiential learning and edutainment, shaping a museum experience that visitors wish to repeat and the DISCOVERY as a must-visit destination for Las Vegas residents and tourists.

DISCOVERY Children’s Museum Las Vegas is located in downtown Las Vegas adjacent to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Symphony Park. The 58,000 sq. ft. space has 26,000 sq. ft. dedicated to playful interactive education exhibits on three floors. Its 9 galleries immerse children in exploration of science, technology, engineering, arts, math, sustainability, creative expression, problem-solving and imaginative play, and emotional and cognitive development activities. Field trips, camps, educator resources, DISCOVERY on Wheels and other programs extend the museum’s impact into schools and the broader community. While the focus is on children under the age of 12, there are also a range of programs for teens and youth. One of the standout programs is the YouthWorks internship, which provides up to 25 teens annually with a chance to start an employment portfolio while gaining personal and professional growth opportunities.

DISCOVERY’s annual budget is approximately $6m, and 80 staff are evenly split between full- and part-time personnel. There are also about 950 youth and 100 adult volunteers along with 20 corporate volunteer groups who provide a wide range of support to the institution and its visitors. The Board has thirteen members, six of whom serve on the Executive Committee. The museum welcomes more than 209,000 visitors annually, including 13,000 school field trip visitors and 3,700 member households. Roughly 20% of attendance is through the Museums for All program, and 5% of visitors receive free or reduced cost access through the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, ensuring that household income does not determine access to museum offerings.
