Executive Director
m/Oppenheim Associates is assisting Episcopal Community Services in the search for a new Executive Director with outstanding nonprofit management skills and exceptional human qualities to lead San Francisco’s largest service provider for homeless and low-income people. Founded in 1982, Episcopal Community Services operates on the mission of “helping homeless and very low-income people every day and every night obtain the housing, jobs, shelter and essential services each person needs to prevent and end homelessness,” and in 2016 served more than 8,000 individuals and families. Through a philosophy of harm reduction, housing first and culturally sensitive “meet people where they are” models, ECS delivers programs through 24/7 shelters, the city’s first Navigation Center, supportive housing, senior services, and education and training.
The organization has an operating budget of $28M FYE 2017, a projected budget of $31M FYE 2018, assets of $4M and employs a staff of 270. Additionally, ECS provides partnership management and asset management services to its housing affiliates, with combined annual operations $5M and assets of $45M. Approximately 80% of ECS’s revenue comes from local government grants and other public sources. ECS raises approximately $1.8M per year in philanthropic gifts from foundations, corporations and private individuals.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director brings leadership, management and strategic direction to the organization, executes its strategic plan, keeps ECS financially and operationally strong, ensures the organization is delivering excellent programs and services, and guides the organization as it evolves to address the needs of the community. The ED is the primary spokesperson, and cultivates strong working relationships with all stakeholders.
