CONTROLLER
National CORE seeks a proven financial management professional to direct the organization’s financial affairs, including budgeting and planning, accounting practices (including general, project, construction and property accounting), financial reporting, and internal and external audits. The organization enhances neighborhood stability through long-term management and maintenance, and shapes industry-leading services such as senior wellness, preschool and afterschool programs, and family self sufficiency through its Hope through Housing Foundation (HOPE).
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the organization’s accounting practices, maintenance of its fiscal records, preparation of financial reports and interacting with the senior staff, Board Members, donors and National CORE’s sophisticated investor base on financial issues. The position supervises a total staff of 27, general accounting, property accounting, construction accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting and budgetary controls and provides timely, accurate and well-conceived financial reporting to the Board of Directors.
This position requires an experienced manager and a hands-on, knowledgeable financial professional who will personally grapple with and resolve issues in real time. The Controller should have a BA or BS degree with experience working in a similar position, a CPA, with construction and property development & management experience preferred. Critical to this position are advanced experience with consolidations, KPI’s and managing similarly scaled financial functions. We also seek experience developing performance efficiencies, streamlining process and working successfully with auditors, and experience in highly complex accounting environments that include project accounting, fund accounting, activity based costing and other approaches. Finally, experience with Yardi and/or Timberline or directly similar accounting software is required, along with advanced use of Excel.
