The Board seeks an experienced executive with a strong record of delivering community-based crisis treatment, transitional residential treatment, and supported housing programs to clients with severe mental illness and substance use disorder. Serving as the organization’s chief executive, the Executive Director will lead and develop Progress Foundation as an operationally and fiscally sound organization that delivers innovative services to the community.
Progress Foundation works at the forefront of the de-institutionalization movement with programs that currently serve four San Francisco Bay Area counties (San Francisco, Marin, Napa, and Sonoma). The organization operates 19 community-based programs, annually supports over 4,500 individuals, and has a network of care that includes: crisis and transitional 24-hour residential programs; a Crisis Stabilization Unit; master-leased supportive housing; and residential apartments funded by federal and state agencies. Services include support for: seniors, mothers reuniting with children, transitional age youth, and individuals leaving long-term institutional confinement. Such programs are developed with county officials and service partners to address the specific needs of people living in urban and rural counties.
The organization was founded in 1969 by the retiring Executive Director. Progress Foundation is financially stable with balanced budgets, a current operating budget of $37.5M funded through contracts, about $35M in real estate assets, approximately 375 unionized staff and an eight-member board of directors, dedicated professionals committed to the organization’s mission and values. Progress Foundation has an exceptional record as a key behavioral health service provider; is respected regionally, state-wide and nationally as a social rehabilitation innovator; and maintains very strong advocacy, program and funding relations in counties where it operates.
The Executive Director will lead a team that is intensely dedicated to delivering de-institutionalized, community-integrated comprehensive treatment approaches for those living with mental health challenges and substance use disorder. This leader must be a gifted public advocate for Progress Foundation and its approach to serving clients and also be adept at working behind the scenes to ensure that County, State and Federal support is maintained and increased for Progress Foundation’s de-institutionalized approach to social rehabilitation.
